This article is intended for the partners of people who have experienced sexual violence. It helps them better understand the behaviours that can result from this type of experience. In this respect, the text is designed to demystify various attitudes and ways of acting that survivors may adopt in their new relationships.
It can sometimes be difficult to understand why a survivor has difficulty being in a relationship with us. The article discusses the concrete effects that sexual violence can have on one’s trust, empowerment, body, sexuality and intimacy.
In addition, kind and caring sentences are included throughout the text to remind readers of the strength of those who have overcome such experiences. When providing people around the survivor with the tools they need to better welcome the person’s challenges, we can contribute to the healing process.
This article is available in French only, but you can check the resource called For Partners of Survivors of Sexual Abuse, by Opening the circle in our list of resources.
