Designed for students about to start an internship, people in training, or professionals already in the workforce, this workshop aims to raise awareness about workplace harassment issues. Lasting a total of 1.5 hours, the workshop is delivered by a team of legal experts and facilitators. It is available in both French and English.
What Is Workplace Harassment?
The workshop begins by introducing participants to the definition of harassment, its different forms, and the distinction between legitimate management rights and workplace harassment. A first practical exercise invites participants to identify harassment situations and point out helpful reactions to adopt and harmful behaviors to avoid.
Employer Obligations
The workshop continues with an overview of provincial legislation — who is protected, by whom, and under what conditions. A section is dedicated to the employer’s obligations, particularly the implementation of an internal policy to prevent and stop harassment. Finally, company unions and the Commission des normes, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST) are presented as key resources to turn to in cases of harassment. A second practical exercise concludes this part.
What to Do If You Are a Victim?
The final part of the workshop aims to clarify the complaint process in cases of workplace harassment. Participants are guided through the steps of filing a complaint, the required documentation, the stages of the procedure, and the role of active bystanders. A last practical exercise invites participants to apply the complaint process to a simulated workplace harassment case, based on a fictional internal company policy.
The workshop concludes with a Q&A session and the distribution of a summary document that recaps the key points of the workshop and provides legal resources available in Québec.
