Did you know that friends are often the first people to hear about an experience of violence?
To raise awareness about helpful vs. harmful reactions to cyberviolence, the YWCA Montreal has developed an immersive 360° virtual reality experience, available in both English and French.
A Three-Part Interactive Experience
More Harm Than Good places participants in the shoes of a college student who confides in friends after sharing intimate photos with her boyfriend. The challenge for participants is to choose among different reactions from peers—some helpful, others harmful.
Through an intersectional lens, the experience explores multiple issues: sexual violence, cyberviolence, sexism, racism, and queerphobia.
This 20-minute activity is divided into three stages, combining immersion and reflection.
Tools for Reflection and Action
More Harm Than Good is designed to spark critical thinking and encourage helpful, compassionate reactions when someone discloses an experience of violence.
It is intended for institutions working with youth aged 16 and older, such as:
- Educational institutions: CEGEPs, universities, trade schools, etc.
- Training centres: vocational training, francization programs, etc.
- Non-profits: community organizations, youth centres, specialized shelters, and more.
More Than an Experience: A Complete Awareness Program
Each More Harm Than Good activity includes:
- An immersive VR experience: Every participant explores an interactive virtual scenario, followed by a facilitated discussion with a trained professional and a short participation survey (snacks and small goodies included!).
- A communications kit: Provided beforehand, with posters, banners, and ready-to-use social media visuals to help promote the activity within your institution.
- A feedback report: Based on surveys to help assess the impact of the activity and identify specific awareness needs in your environment.
Benefits for Your Institution
- Identify different forms of violence.
- Adopt supportive behaviours and learn how to react to disclosure.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to intersectional forms of violence.

Book Your VR Experience
Funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada, More Harm Than Good is available free of charge until March 2026.
Sessions must be booked for a minimum of 3 hours and are delivered directly to your institution by YWCA Montreal facilitators. To best meet your needs, the activity can take different formats: kiosk, group session, classroom, interactive lecture, and more.
Prior to the activity, our team will connect with you to discuss your specific challenges. This ensures the post-immersion discussion is tailored to your reality and has a lasting impact.
