Au coin du brasier is a podcast that will give you a better understanding of ableist violence and provide you with suggestions on how to limit it. Episode 7, which we are focusing on, is approximately 35 minutes long. It discusses the different forms of violence that occur in relationships, while highlighting the particularities of violence committed towards people with disabilities.
This content is highly relevant to ensure that you fully grasp the extent of the violence these people can experience. The hosts repeat it a few times in the episode: knowledge is power.
The content is available on platforms like Spotify, Apple Podcast, YouTube, and Balado Québec. The episodes are also available on both the FQPN and Les 3 sex* websites. However, if you wish to activate English or French subtitles, you need to visit the FQPN YouTube channel.
Better Understanding of Ableist Violence
Au coin du brasier is a collaboration between Les 3 sex* and the Fédération du Québec pour le planning des naissances (FQPN), led by Gwendoline Lüthi and Laurence Raynault-Rioux. The hosts do an excellent job of popularizing, concretizing and bringing to light issues that are still often overlooked in the fight against sexual violence. Throughout the episodes, a number of people with disabilities talk about their own experiences when it comes to sexuality.
People with disabilities, particularly cis and trans women and non-binary people, experience sexual violence at significantly higher rates than people without disabilities. For this reason, efforts towards prevention, awareness and support in relation to sexual violence would be more effective if they were designed more specifically for these people. This is why we suggest you listen to this episode about ableist violence.
