The YWCA Montreal trains employers, staff, and anyone entering the workforce on the professional challenges faced by people from diverse backgrounds, as well as on the culture of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Where Are You From? addresses unconscious bias and microaggressions through a virtual reality experience, interactive discussions, and hands-on case studies tailored to the realities of work environments.
Unconscious biases, microaggressions, diversity, equity, inclusion… what do these terms mean?
These concepts relate to often unseen yet very real dynamics—especially crucial to acknowledge in a richly diverse setting like Quebec and Montreal.
Unconscious biases are automatic judgments or stereotypes we make without even realizing it. They influence our decisions and interactions and can perpetuate inequality. Microaggressions are subtle, often unintentional remarks or behaviors that can hurt those who experience them and lead to professional disengagement.
In the workplace, an equitable and inclusive culture helps to:
- Foster employee engagement ;
- Stimulate innovation ;
- Improve staff retention ;
- Strengthen brand appeal.
Implementing concrete DEI practices is an investment in sustainable, human-centred, and collective performance. That’s the spirit in which our training Where Are You From? was created: to turn these values into powerful drivers and vital forces at the heart of your organization.
An experience That Goes Beyond Simple Training: Personalized Support
Where Are You From? is a comprehensive service that includes:
- A half-day training session: We train managers, employees, newcomers to the job market, and HR professionals on unconscious biases and microaggressions ;
- A consultation on your complaint process: We work with your HR team to review your complaint and reporting procedures to ensure they are accessible, confidential, and effective, ensuring no situation is left unaddressed ;
- An awareness toolkit: Provided after the training, this includes a poster, an email template, a resource sheet, and social media visuals to help extend the training’s impact and reinforce the learning over time.
Benefits for your teams and work environment
- Better understand the experiences and realities of people from diverse backgrounds, especially immigrants;
- Identify personal biases and learn how to manage them in a professional context;
- Recognize workplace microaggressions and learn appropriate ways to respond, regardless of your position;
- Adopt ethical hiring practices and support inclusive, lasting integration.
Interactive training divided into 3 phases
The training is offered in person over 3.5 hours or online over 2.5 hours and is structured into 3 phases:
- A virtual reality immersion into a recruitment process where several microaggressions occur ;
- A learning session through group discussions ;
- A practical workshop applying strategies through a real-life case study in small groups.
Before the training, to ensure lasting impact, the YWCA Montreal team takes the time to discuss your specific diversity, inclusion, and microaggression prevention needs. These discussions allow us to tailor examples and scenarios to situations that directly reflect your organizational reality.
