{"id":7983,"date":"2024-06-21T11:41:29","date_gmt":"2024-06-21T15:41:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sansviolencefree.ca\/?post_type=ressources&#038;p=7983"},"modified":"2025-11-10T14:43:31","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T19:43:31","slug":"more-harmthan-good","status":"publish","type":"ressources","link":"https:\/\/sansviolencefree.ca\/en\/resources\/more-harmthan-good\/","title":{"rendered":"More <strike>Harm<\/strike> Than Good: An immersive virtual reality experience to raise awareness of cyber violence"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Did you know that friends are often the first people to hear about an experience of violence?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To raise awareness about <a href=\"https:\/\/sansviolencefree.ca\/en\/resources\/the-age-of-ultra-connectivity-a-growing-threat-or-an-opportunity-to-combat-violence-against-women\/\">helpful vs. harmful reactions to cyberviolence<\/a>, the YWCA Montreal has developed an immersive 360\u00b0 virtual reality experience, available in both English and French.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Three-Part Interactive Experience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>More Harm Than Good<\/em> places participants in the shoes of a college student who confides in friends after sharing intimate photos with her boyfriend. The challenge for participants is to choose among different reactions from peers\u2014some helpful, others harmful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through an <strong>intersectional lens<\/strong>, the experience explores multiple issues: <strong>sexual violence, cyberviolence, sexism, racism, and queerphobia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This 20-minute activity is divided into <strong>three stages<\/strong>, combining immersion and reflection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Coup de poing, coup de main | More Harm Than Good\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ImDCl3mcbco?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tools for Reflection and Action<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>More Harm Than Good<\/em> is designed to spark <strong>critical thinking<\/strong> and encourage <strong>helpful, compassionate reactions<\/strong> when someone discloses an experience of violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is intended for institutions working with youth aged <strong>16 and older<\/strong>, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Educational institutions<\/strong>: CEGEPs, universities, trade schools, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Training centres<\/strong>: vocational training, francization programs, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Non-profits<\/strong>: community organizations, youth centres, specialized shelters, and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More Than an Experience: A Complete Awareness Program<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each <em>More Harm Than Good<\/em> activity includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>An immersive VR experience<\/strong>: Every participant explores an interactive virtual scenario, followed by a facilitated discussion with a trained professional and a short participation survey (<em>snacks and small goodies included!<\/em>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A communications kit<\/strong>: Provided beforehand, with posters, banners, and ready-to-use social media visuals to help promote the activity within your institution.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A feedback report<\/strong>: Based on surveys to help assess the impact of the activity and identify specific awareness needs in your environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Benefits for Your Institution<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Identify different forms of violence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adopt supportive behaviours and learn how to react to disclosure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recognize and respond appropriately to <strong>intersectional forms of violence<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discover available resources for sexual and gender-based violence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Book Your VR Experience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Funded by <strong>Women and Gender Equality Canada<\/strong>, <em>More Harm Than Good<\/em> is available <strong>free of charge until March 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sessions must be booked for a <strong>minimum of 3 hours<\/strong> and are delivered directly to your institution by YWCA Montreal facilitators.
