{"id":8402,"date":"2026-01-12T12:24:49","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T17:24:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sansviolencefree.ca\/?post_type=ressources&#038;p=8402"},"modified":"2026-01-16T14:13:57","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T19:13:57","slug":"training-programs-learn-the-essentials-of-responding-to-sexual-violence","status":"publish","type":"ressources","link":"https:\/\/sansviolencefree.ca\/en\/resources\/training-programs-learn-the-essentials-of-responding-to-sexual-violence\/","title":{"rendered":"Training Programs: Learn the Essentials of Responding to Sexual Violence\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Designed for&nbsp;<strong>professionals working in postsecondary settings<\/strong>, these training sessions aim to&nbsp;<strong>equip resource personnel<\/strong>&nbsp;in matters related to sexual and gender-based violence&nbsp;(SGBV).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For this new academic term, the&nbsp;<em>YWCA Montreal&nbsp;<\/em>is offering two new&nbsp;training programs:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Foundational&nbsp;training<\/strong>&nbsp;aimed at developing core knowledge on&nbsp;<strong>best practices<\/strong>, as well as the&nbsp;<strong>roles<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>responsibilities<\/strong>&nbsp;involved in the SGBV intervention mandate;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Specialized&nbsp;training<\/strong>&nbsp;on the&nbsp;<strong>socioeconomic impacts<\/strong>&nbsp;of SGBV in&nbsp;<strong>male-dominated sectors<\/strong>, using an&nbsp;<strong>intersectional approach<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These programs are independent from one another and may be delivered together or separately.&nbsp;They&nbsp;are&nbsp;available&nbsp;in&nbsp;both&nbsp;French and English.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Training 1. Sexual Violence, Gender-Based Violence\u2026 What Are We Talking About?&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first part of the training&nbsp;<strong>clarifies the concepts of SGBV<\/strong>&nbsp;and explores:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The different forms of&nbsp;violence;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The link between unconscious bias, systemic violence, and&nbsp;SGBV;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The resources available for continuous&nbsp;learning.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Intersectoral professionals,&nbsp;<em>Guichet Unique<\/em>&nbsp;services, faculty, administration\u2026 Who does&nbsp;what?&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second part&nbsp;identifies&nbsp;the&nbsp;<strong>roles of the various actors<\/strong>&nbsp;in postsecondary settings.&nbsp;Two areas are addressed through group work:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Distribution of SGBV responsibilities within a post-secondary institution;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Resources to mobilize&nbsp;to&nbsp;sustain intervention services.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The \u00ab\u202fGrey&nbsp;Zone\u202f\u00bb of SGBV Policies&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The training concludes with<strong>&nbsp;scenario-based activities<\/strong>&nbsp;inspired by issues&nbsp;identified&nbsp;by the&nbsp;<em>YWCA<\/em>&nbsp;during consultations with sector professionals.&nbsp;These exercises highlight&nbsp;<strong>common gaps in current policies<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Training&nbsp;2.&nbsp;SGBV in Male-Dominated&nbsp;Environments:&nbsp;Systemic Violence, Socioeconomic Impacts, and Intervention Best Practices&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first part of the training focuses on SGBV in professional and educational settings that are typically&nbsp;male-dominated.&nbsp;It explores:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The distinction between traditionally male-dominated and traditionally female-dominated fields;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Unconscious&nbsp;bias;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Systemic&nbsp;violence.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Socioeconomic Consequences of SGBV&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second part sheds light on the&nbsp;<strong>impact of SGBV on the socioeconomic success<\/strong>&nbsp;of girls and women. Using traditionally male-dominated sectors as a case study, it addresses:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Academic and&nbsp;professional&nbsp;dropout;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Barriers to academic and professional achievement;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The economic consequences of SGBV.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adapted Intervention Methods&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The training concludes with group-based practical exercises. These activities help participants distinguish between&nbsp;<strong>harmful and helpful intervention<\/strong>&nbsp;responses.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tailored Support&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<em>YWCA Montreal<\/em>&nbsp;is committed to&nbsp;<strong>supporting intersectoral professionals&nbsp;<\/strong>by offering&nbsp;<strong>ready-to-use<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>original<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>innovative<\/strong>&nbsp;resources.
