Socioeconomic

The Socioeconomic theme brings together all the platform’s resources, addressing both the socioeconomic dimension of various forms of violence and socioeconomic violence itself. The resources associated with this theme will help you better understand and address these issues.

Understanding Socioeconomic Impacts

In this resources’ theme, you will find intervention tools and informative texts that highlight the way sexual violence (SV) and gender-based violence (GBV) can impact the socioeconomic aspects of the survivors’ life. The proposed resources also introduce how, due to their systemic nature, these forms of violence can affect women, girls and gender queers’ socioeconomic status (income, social status).

Systemic Maintenance Factors

The available resources address both individual and systemic factors and behaviors. On the Sans Violence Free platform, the term “systemic” refers to the dynamic of a system where interactions and interdependence among individuals influence the way institutions and society function. Among the socioeconomic impacts of SV and GBV, those which persist and repeat over time are also qualified as systemic. A system refers to coordinated elements of Quebec institutions (schools, governments, health systems, etc.).

Economic Violence

Resources included in this theme also specifically address economic violence. Although this kind of violence also impacts economic security, it is distinct from SV. Thus, some resources include definitions and examples of what economic violence can look like in intimate, professional, familial and friendly relationships, thereby highlighting its differences from SV.

The resources available on this platform should also help you better understand the challenges faced by individuals with diverse life experience when it comes to SV and GBV. These resources can be used to raise awareness about the economic and socioeconomic impacts of systemic GBV within your community. Therefore, you will be better equipped to integrate overlooked aspects into your prevention and intervention strategies against gender inequalities and violence.
