Topics covered: healthy relationships, disclosure, empowerment.
Intended for professionals working in the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) within their communities, the Active Bystander posters are designed to be engaging, accessible, and ready to use. Available in both French and English, they make it easier to implement awareness campaigns and encourage concrete, compassionate, and supportive responses to violence.
Sexual and Gender-Based Violence: Issues That Remain Too Taboo
The ESSIMU study, conducted in 2016 across six Quebec universities, revealed an alarming reality: 36.9% of students and staff surveyed had experienced at least one form of sexual violence within their institution.
Despite growing awareness, SGBV remain a sensitive topic, still too often surrounded by silence. Yet, preventing these forms of violence has now become a crucial responsibility for all postsecondary institutions.
Practical Examples of Supportive Behaviours
Through various media, the YWCA Montreal is committed to supporting professionals in the field with ready-to-use, original, and innovative resources. Active Bystanders and Helpful Reactions posters provide concrete guidance to help people learn how to (re)act easily when faced with a situation of violence. Displayed in common areas, they capture attention and foster collective awareness of everyone’s role in addressing violence and microaggressions.
An accessible and essential tool to support any initiative aimed at preventing and promoting accountability regarding SGBV.
