Designed for professionals working in postsecondary settings, these training sessions aim to equip resource personnel in matters related to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
For this new academic term, the YWCA Montreal is offering two new training programs:
- Foundational training aimed at developing core knowledge on best practices, as well as the roles and responsibilities involved in the SGBV intervention mandate;
- Specialized training on the socioeconomic impacts of SGBV in male-dominated sectors, using an intersectional approach.
These programs are independent from one another and may be delivered together or separately. They are available in both French and English.
Training 1. Sexual Violence, Gender-Based Violence… What Are We Talking About?
The first part of the training clarifies the concepts of SGBV and explores:
- The different forms of violence;
- The link between unconscious bias, systemic violence, and SGBV;
- The resources available for continuous learning.
Intersectoral professionals, Guichet Unique services, faculty, administration… Who does what?
The second part identifies the roles of the various actors in postsecondary settings. Two areas are addressed through group work:
- Distribution of SGBV responsibilities within a post-secondary institution;
- Resources to mobilize to sustain intervention services.
The « Grey Zone » of SGBV Policies
The training concludes with scenario-based activities inspired by issues identified by the YWCA during consultations with sector professionals. These exercises highlight common gaps in current policies.
Training 2. SGBV in Male-Dominated Environments: Systemic Violence, Socioeconomic Impacts, and Intervention Best Practices
The first part of the training focuses on SGBV in professional and educational settings that are typically male-dominated. It explores:
- The distinction between traditionally male-dominated and traditionally female-dominated fields;
- Unconscious bias;
- Systemic violence.
Socioeconomic Consequences of SGBV
The second part sheds light on the impact of SGBV on the socioeconomic success of girls and women. Using traditionally male-dominated sectors as a case study, it addresses:
- Academic and professional dropout;
- Barriers to academic and professional achievement;
- The economic consequences of SGBV.
Adapted Intervention Methods
The training concludes with group-based practical exercises. These activities help participants distinguish between harmful and helpful intervention responses.

The YWCA Montreal is committed to supporting intersectoral professionals by offering ready-to-use, original, and innovative resources. In addition to these training programs, we also offer:
